Great come back for Under 18 girls

Leek travelled to Lutterworth expecting a tough game and that is exactly what they got. Lutterworth have won nearly all their games this season and play strong direct rugby. We had a decent size squad for a change but the long journey was not out of our system and we conceded an early try. We could not retain the ball in the loose and set pieces so we could not develop our game plan. A good run by Morgan set up Leah who had a 2 man overlap. As the defence charged over she threw a dummy pass and ghosted in for a fine try. More pressure from ourselves saw Katie get inches from their line, Jenny had a go before off loading to Alana to cap off a fine display by our number 8. Lutterworth came back strongly scoring a fine try in the corner from their speedy full back and poor tackling allowed another try to make the half time score 19-12.
We discussed what we needed to improve on and immediately missed more tackles to allow Lutterworth to score in the first minute. 26-12 up the game seemed all over as we were still struggling to maintain possession. With 20 minutes to go Morgan, Maddie and Grace Wilson started to make good ground and also maintain the ball. Morgan got the ball 30 yards out with a possible overlap on the cards. She straightened her run and blasted through many tackles to score under the posts. Leek were now implementing their game play and another overlap oppotunity saw Holly racing to the corner to score. The pitch was narrower than we were use too and a high tackle 2 yards short of the line saw the referee give a penalty try. 26 all. Strong linking between the forwards allowed Morgan space again. She was stopped short of the line but Jenny popped up to score. We were now in charge of the ball and scored a cracker to finish the game when we were stopped short of the line again with the ball being transferred to Kyra. Her strenght and self belief saw her crash over with half the Lutterworth pack hanging onto her.
Lutterworth are a fine well coached team with great running and tackling strenght with some brilliant runners. To come back against this team is a fine achievement. Thank you Lutterworth for a great game of rugby and also their kind hospitality.
