Leek travelled to Lichfield to play both Mansfield and Old Crossleyans in the semi finals of the national cup. With OC beating Mansfield 10-7 in the first game, Leek took on a very strong Mansfield side. We are notorious slow starters but not today. Several phases took us down the field and we started to dominate both possession and territory. Morgan opened the scoring with a typical Morgan try in the corner. Great score captain. All the girls were on top of their game both in attack and defence and further phase play resulted in Izzy seeing a gap to score from 20 yards. Try converted by Holly. Further sustained pressure saw an overlap with Holly sprinting away to score under the posts which she converted. Outstanding team performance against classy opposition. With a 19-0 win it meant we had to beat or draw against OC. Again we started well with Morgan again proving to strong to stop scoring in the corner. Further pressure meant a string of penalties one of which was moved quickly to Holly for her to score a cracker. 10-0HT. Leek expected OC to come back strongly and that is what they did. We were comfortable in defence but sustained pressure saw OC crash over in the corner 10-5. We still seemed in control but OC broke away and scored under the posts. Unfortunately the young lady was unlucky with conversion which levelled the scored 10-10 which meant we would go through. The girls kept calm and saw the game out and were worthy winners in both games producing fantastic rugby. Well done to OC and Mansfield for their part in 3 brilliant games. If the girls play like they did today with their strong team ethic, I feel they are going to be hard to beat. They wanted to progress so badly and this showed in their play. One to the final now against Kingsbridge RFC. May the best team win.
