Welcome back to another season of rugby at Leek Rugby Club.
A highly competitive end to last season saw Leek maintain third position in the Midlands 2 West (North) League. This year, Luke Hardern continues as 1st team Captain, aided by his two Vice-captains, Ed Cheadle and Sam Hunt, with all the team grouped together under Head Coach, Lee Pickles. We welcome a new Colts team coach, Jack Jones, to help retain and progress younger players through to senior rugby and to build on the success of last season. The mini and junior section continues to expand under the leadership of Marcus Midwinter with many teams performing to a high standard in the both the junior leagues and cup competitions. Once again, our ladies section had an exceptional year, with the under 15s squad winning 10 games to reach the National Girls Cup Final.

The club wishes to thank all volunteers, including the probation service who assisted with groundworks, and all section members who helped at the NatWest weekend where many pre-season tasks were completed. It was fantastic to have support from ex-England World Cup winner Neil Back, who not only hosted a Q & A session but also gave his hand to some painting. I am sure you will enjoy the refreshed décor and new floor in the clubhouse as a result of everyone’s hard work.

Last year, over £18k was raised towards the £75k target for our proposed clubhouse extension. Draft extension plans are on display in the clubhouse and we would encourage you all to come forward with your comments as we continue with fund raising activities this year. A big ‘thank you’ goes to Alison Fox for managing the Saturday kitchen over the previous two seasons. This year, the kitchen is managed by Anna Porter and her team, maintaining a focus on producing good food at a reasonable price.
Finally, a huge ‘thank you’ to our main club sponsor, Esterchem and all other club sponsors and people who volunteer their time to help at the club in any capacity. Without their time and commitment the club would not be the great sporting and social base that everyone loves.
