League and cup success for our 2nd XV

Following successive promotions in the Halbro Leagues our 2nd XV made the transition to playing in the RFU leagues this year, entering at Level 9 of the pyramid.

And they acquitted themselves well, finishing in 3rd behind two strong 1st XV outfits in the league and going on to prove themselves the best 2nd XV in the county with their Staffordshire Centenary Cup win.

Credit goes to the skipper Andy Thompson and coaches Chris Mudd and Steve Fryer, who have worked hard to build a 2nd XV identity and playing style while having to deal with an ever-changing side.

It was also fantastic to see several top-performing 2nd XV players get their chance to prove themselves with the 1st XV through the season, exactly what the wider coaching team were looking for.

Congratulations go to the following players who picked up awards at last weeks players dinner:

Coaches’ Player: Harry Byrne, available to sponsor.

Players’ Player: Brenig Hughes, kindly sponsored by Trials Day.

Most Improved Forward: Harry Evans, kindly sponsored by D. Evans Builders.

Most Improved Back: Jay Wilkinson, kindly sponsored by Upland Systems and Cryostore
