Leek Cobras overcame Uttoxeter under 16s with a dominant performance in their Remembrance Sunday game.
As always on this special day, it had started with every Leek rugby generation bowing their heads and showing respect for those who made the ultimate sacrifice, so that we could enjoy the freedom and safety we enjoy today.
More than 100 years ago, there were pals who went over the top together, not much older than the young men who went toe to toe with Uttoxeter on a foggy autumn day at Altrad Park.
The game started with a trade mark big Dom try before both teams sized each other up.
Uttoxeter must be credited with their recruitment in recent years. We have played every calibre of side in the last ten years and they are truly moving in the right direction.
But three trys from player of the match Dom C sandwiched around half time broke Uttoxeter’s hope of taking much from the game. Leek were scrappy in parts, but when they put the system in place that we have worked on, they look a strong team. Alex scored before Louis chipped through and scored his first of the day.
A workmanlike performance was drawing to a close and notable mention needs to be given to Aiden, strong in attack and defence.
All that was left to do, was for two sets of pals to congratulate each other and march off for a well earnt shower.
Final score - Leek 45 - 12 Uttoxeter.
