Leek rugby's growing girls section's coaches and managers were celebrated at the recent Staffordshire RFU volunteer awards.

The group - Joel Booth, Ben Barlow, Paddy Lawlor, Ian Harris, Katie Mellor, Stephen Clancy and Kerry Massey - have ensured that girls rugby is now a key part of our activities at Altrad Park.

They have worked tirelessly to ensure that girls at Leek have a pathway in rugby once they finish the mixed age-grade rugby at U11s. This has included organising fixtures against opponents in various neighbouring counties and securing the partnership with Longton rugby club to ensure we have good squad numbers to play games and progress.

The high standard the girls have achieved has seen several of them picked to play for the county, thanks in no small part to the pedigree of their coaches - former Leek players and the 1st XV head coach!

And we give special thanks to Kerry for taking on such a busy administration role - those of us who have done something similar over the years know it is far from easy.
