Work is set to begin early next month (July 2026) on a new balcony that will significantly increase the capacity of the Leek rugby clubhouse.
Moorlands-based contractor Ashleigh’s Builders has been appointed to deliver the project, which will see the construction of a new steel structure measuring 12 metres by 6 metres—creating an additional 72 square metres of elevated space overlooking the St Edward’s Park pitch.
Beneath the balcony, a new patio area will be developed, featuring covered seating along with an outdoor bar and hot drinks area (subject to licensing approval). The project is scheduled for completion by the end of August, in time for the start of the new season.
The project has been made possible through years of careful planning, fundraising, and continued support from members and the wider community.
This development marks the latest in a series of ongoing improvements to the clubhouse. Last year’s refurbishment of the kitchen included upgrades to ventilation, cooking equipment, food preparation and storage facilities, as well as new flooring throughout.
A second phase of works is planned to follow, which will include the installation of a roof and retractable glass panels to enable year-round use of the balcony area.
Club chair Marcus Midwinter said: “The new balcony reflects our commitment to continuous improvement, both on and off the pitch. We have seen tremendous progress across the club in recent seasons, from the success of our senior teams to the continued growth of our junior section, girls’ rugby and most recently the formation of our women’s team.
“As a community club rooted in the local area, we will continue to invest in facilities for players, members and visitors alike, ensuring we can support this growth while remaining sustainable.”
“This project has only been possible thanks to the dedication and hard work of our volunteers and supporters, and we are extremely grateful to everyone who has contributed.”
