Leek/Longton girls beat visitors in first meeting

On a cold, bright afternoon perfect for rugby, the Lightning U16 Girls welcomed Long Eaton for the first meeting of the two sides at this level. Long Eaton won the toss with Lightning receiving first.

The start was tight with scores being traded, before Lightning stepped up a gear and, after strong carries by the forwards, started to get the ball out wide to Brooke who proved unstoppable on several occasions. Half-time score 24-7

The third quarter saw an increase in the intensity levels of both sides’ play with terrific carries and matching tackles. All the Lightning forwards got involved making decent ground against fierce defense. Scores were traded again leading to a score of 34-19.

As energy levels dropped Lightning managed some lovely running out wide with Brooke and Lucie a double act to finish off an amazing try, drawing in the last defender and offloading at the perfect time!

Final score was 46-24, with much for Lightning to be proud off, as well as some things to work on for Wednesday night. Well played girls!
