Leek will look to close out their season in style, and with some silverware, when they face Tunbridge Wells in the national Papa Johns Shield final at Worcester’s Sixways stadium on Saturday.
The Moorlanders reached the final with a nail-biting last-kick win over Derby before receiving walkover wins in the quarter and semi-finals. The Kent outfit secured their spot with a semi-final victory over Horsham.
It’s the second year in a row that Leek have reached the Papa Johns final, having lost to county rivals Stoke last year, and the match will bring the curtain down on another successful season for the blue and whites.
Competing in Regional 1 North West for a second year, after back-to-back promotions in the previous two campaigns, they held their own against some well-funded, semi-professional clubs. They have maintained their Level 5 status for next season, whereas neighbours Stoke were relegated.
Nine of the Leek senior squad were selected for Staffordshire in a charity match on Friday night, which gave them a useful runout ahead of next weekend’s final.
The Papa Johns final is at Sixways Stadium, Worcester at 3pm on Saturday, 17 May. Parking and entry to the stadium is free of charge. The club is taking two coaches for players, fans and officials and a few tickets remain - please contact Mark Hardern on 07539 336299 to book yours.
