It's OK to talk

It's OK to talk

Graham Leftwich

Focus on men's mental health

Suicide continues to take far too many men, and that is something none of us should be prepared to accept.

So we are proud to be teaming up with Andy's Man Club to help raise awareness, encourage conversation and remind men across our club, and wider community, that they don’t have to struggle alone.

Rugby can sometimes come with that “tough bloke” image, for 80 minutes you put your body on the line, get back up, carry on and show no weakness.

For some, rugby is a huge part of their life. The training, the changing room, the clubhouse, the laughs, the teammates and simply having somewhere to belong. When the season stops, when injury keeps you on the sidelines, when fitness isn’t coming back as quickly as you hoped, or when life outside rugby becomes difficult, that sense of community can suddenly feel a long way away, and sometimes the hardest words a man can say are simply:
“I’m struggling.”

You don’t have to be a rugby player. You don’t have to be part of the club. You certainly don’t have to have everything figured out.

One of the most important things you can do is talk.

  • There is strength in putting your hand up.
  • There is strength in checking in on a friend or teammate.
  • There is strength in listening.
  • There is strength in asking for help.

On the pitch, we look after the people around us. It should be no different off it.

We’re incredibly proud to support Andy's Man Club and to play our part in reminding men across our club and our wider community, that it’s OK to talk. Information about Andy’s Man Club meetings in your local area can be found at www.andysmanclub.co.uk
