Ian Spicer RIP

Death of a true club legend

It is with great sadness that Leek rugby club announces the sudden passing of former president, Ian Spicer.

Ian’s involvement with the club spanned nearly 60 years as a player, on the wing or in the centre, in the 1960s and 1970s, and latterly as an administrator and president of the club between 2006 and 2011.

Ian led a group of members in the 1990s with vision and clarity, as the club finally moved from its old HQ in Strangman Street to St Edward's Park. His unwavering determination over many years meant Leek rugby secured a permanent home befitting the club's ambitions.

Ian’s work and family commitments meant he travelled, worked and lived abroad but he was always coming back to his hometown and coming to the club to meet with friends and support his club.

The club sends its heartfelt condolences to all of his family and friends at this difficult time and we will update with further details as and when the family advises.
