Girls shine at pitch up and play event

Another great week of Leek mini and junior rugby action

Last Sunday saw a brilliant day for the future of girls rugby at Leek as our Under 9 and Under 10 girls travelled to Burton for a girls-only Pitch Up & Play festival.

With ten Leek players proudly representing the blue and white, the girls mixed with teams from Burton, Worcester and Bracken in round-robin games, gaining their first taste of girls-only rugby and the chance to experience the larger U10 pitch and laws.

A fantastic day of rugby, teamwork and fun - and the icing on the cake was getting photos with the Women’s Rugby World Cup trophy! Huge thanks to Burton for hosting and to coaches Simon and Ryan for supporting the day.

The under 16 Vikings hosted Ashbourne in a tough contest. It was close at half time before the visitors edged ahead in the second half. The lads battled hard throughout with strong carries from forward of the match Henry and attacking spark from back of the match Freddie.

The under 12 Vixens returned to St Edward’s Park to face a spirited hybrid side from Stoke, Stafford and Market Drayton. As always it was a tight contest, with the girls matching the physicality and showing great resilience throughout.

Our under 9s were away at Stafford, the boys faced a well-drilled side and put in a determined performance with plenty of effort across the pitch. Top tacklers this week were Bowie for his work rate and Brook for some strong tackles.

The under 8s Wolves put in a great team performance at home against Stafford, with lots of teamwork and effort across the pitch. A special moment for Clemmie, who scored her first ever try - well done!

We saw fantastic progress from the under 7s - our youngest Moorlanders - with improved lines, communication and teamwork. Coaches were delighted to see players calling for the ball and supporting each other throughout.
