Leek Lightning under 16s girls ran in eleven tries to defeat Derbyshire Dragons in the National Cup and put the smile back on Moorlands' faces after a tough Saturday for the men.
The sun shone on a stellar performance at St Edward's Park, with the Leek lasses dominating throughout. They scored five tries in the first half to lead 29-7 at the break and added six more in the second period to run out 61-21 winners.
The girls had stepped onto the pitch with intensity, determination and passion, securing a win in their first National Cup pool game. And they showed what they are capable of when they pull together as a team.
There was some fantastic rugby on display, with strong defending and attacking throughout. Derbyshire Dragons certainly kept the pressure on and gave us a great contest.
Huge congratulations to Ruby, who was awarded opposition player of the match! Thoroughly deserved after some incredible runs and three tries.
And a special mention to Lucy, who made her rugby debut! You were absolutely super, nobody would have guessed it was your first match!
Thank you to everyone who came down to cheer the girls on. The atmosphere around the sidelines was brilliant, and your support meant so much.
