Leek's under 8s have won this year's Eggy Cup, presented in memory of former player and club member Alan “Eggy” Embury
The cup, together with the Mick Beeston memorial award, are presented each year to the mini & junior teams whose seasons stood out according to votes from across the section’s team managers.
The under 8s have continued to develop with more than 20 boys and girls competing regularly and travelling some distance to get competitive fixtures. They performed well at recent festivals as well as successfully hosting the Staffs County Festival at Leek where they fielded three teams. We look forward to seeing the side transition to contact rugby as under 9s next season.
The Mick Beeston Memorial Award was awarded to Leek/Congleton CLAWS Under 13s, presented in memory of popular local policeman and father of two 1st XV captains, Mick Beeston.
This combined side have prospered this season, turning what could have been a disadvantage of combining two clubs into a real strength. The team put together an amazing county cup run, just narrowly missing out in the final to a strong Burton side. A great start to competitive rugby for this group, we look forward to seeing what they can do as an under 14s side.
