Born in Upper Hulme, Eric attended Leek High School as a pupil, and would eventually return as a teacher. He will be remembered fondly by former pupils, teammates, members and rivals as a great man who loved rugby and Leek in particular.

Even in his final days he remained keenly interested in the club’s fortunes, who had made selection for the weekend and how the various teams might end up at the end of this season.

The club wishes to send its heartfelt condolences to his wife, Chris, all of his family and friends at this difficult time.
