Joe Byrne makes an earlier than expected return to action tomorrow as he comes into the 1st XV at full back after six weeks out with a shoulder injury.

Leek name a strong side to welcome Rochdale to St Edward’s Park, with the usual blend of youth and experience. The two Joels, Booth and Hine, are together in the engine room and the whole club will look forward to the 1st XV debut of Academy skipper Oscar Powell. Oscar has come through the mini and junior setup and will likely join brother Oli on the pitch at some point.

The 2nd XV travel the short distance to face neighbours Trentham 1XV in what will be a tough first challenge for the side. They name a good looking side with a nice sprinkling of experience in the front five, and all-action back row and a pacy set of backs.

Our 3rd XV also kick things off this year with a tough encounter away at East Manchester. The reverse fixture was a close fought game and with top spot up for grabs this is certainly one to watch.

And before all of that our Academy XV will take on Burntwood in a midday kick off on the top pitch.
