It was a day to forget for Leek's men's teams as the 1st, 2nd and 3rd XVs all went down to heavy defeats.
The 1st XV were under pressure early at Kendal and went behind to a penalty. They conceded two converted tries and another penalty before Joe Byrne got them on the board with a penalty kick.
The hosts scored two more tries, Sam Brereton crossing for Leek's first just before the break to make the half-time score 32-10. Breo's second 15 minutes into the second period gave hopes of a Leek rally, but the hosts hit back to snuff them out. James Milan crossed for a try, but Kendal had the last word, running out 42-22 winners.
Leek 2s fell behind early at Wolverhampton and struggled to contain the hosts. They went into the break trailing 48-0. But there's a never say die attitude throughout the senior men's squad, and the Moorlanders fought back to win the second half, tries from Andy Thompson, Jay Wilkinson, Harry Byrne and Nick Butters earning a try bonus point in a 65-24 defeat.
Leek 3s had the upper hand for most of the first half as they hosted Knutsford at St Edward's Park. They led 12-0 early on and should have had two or three more tries, but handling errors repeatedly let them down.
The visitors claimed their first score on 15 minutes, but it was a disastrous period either side of the break that gave them the win, Leek missing multiple tackles as the Cheshire men scored seemingly at will. The Moorlanders were trailing 12-38 when they belatedly recovered their poise and started playing some rugby. Two tries meant a bonus point, with Knutsford claiming a seventh to seal a big win.
Time to regroup, learn and get back to work together. Thank you to our main club sponsor, HGV Direct, and all our sponsors for their continued support.
There's an opportunity for some redemption this afternoon with the Lightning under 16 girls hosting Derbyshire in the National Cup. Get yourselves down and make some noise!
