3XV cruise to handsome win in first game back

A fitting tribute to the late Keith Rollason

Leek 3rd XV cruised to a handsome win over Worksop in the first game of the season at St Edward's Park, in a fitting tribute to late club legend Keith Rollason.

The Moorlanders scored seven tries in a 45-7 win, including an emotional score for Simon Rollason.

Scrum half Harry Byrne opened the scoring after just three minutes, with half back partner Ethan Newton-Taylor adding a second. A brace for debutant Tom 'Moose' Beck completed the first half scoring.

A more evenly contested second period saw no scoring until the half-hour mark, when the visitors notched their only try. But Leek finished strongly with tries from Callum Bloor, Rollason and Pete Titley.

A decent St Edward's Park crowd were treated to some great rugby and some standout personal performances. With a squad of 29 players available, the season looks set fair for our third string.

And it was a wonderful way to celebrate to Keith Rollason, who spent so many years volunteering in the kitchen and at other club events.
