As is the policy with Leek RUFC, all games/ matches will be played if at all possible. So with 10 players from Leek and 2 players loaned from Uttoxeter the game proceeded. Within 10 mins Uttoxeter had shown their intent and had quickly registered the 1st points using the extra men to their advantage. This was repeated for the rest of the 1st half and at the interval had registered a 19-0 lead. Leek however had come with intent to give it their best and through hard work and determination were rewarded for continuos pressure on the Uttoxeter 5yd line when James Barker managed to break Uttoxeter's defensive line to touch down in the corner unfortunately the extra 2 points were not collected but some pride had been restored for leek .
The second half was pretty much oneway with Uttoxeter continually pushing for more, but to Leeks credit they held firm and held out to deprive Uttoxeter to a blank 2nd half.
Capt Hicks said
" to come to Uttoxeter with only 10 men is a credit to the 3rds and thanks must be given to Uttoxeter for the loan of 2 players but even with 12 men we were still up against it.
Without sterling performances from the Barker brothers, Steve Mellor, and MOM for Leek Callum Foxcroft the result could have been very much worse"
This Saturday Leek 3rds travel locally to Handsforth all available players advise your captain and meet at the clubhouse at 12.15.
