LEEK 3's 46 v 14 LONGTON 3's
Leek 3's played hosts to local rivals LONGTON on Saturday in what was and is looked upon as, a fierce local derby .
On the Wall lane Pitch which was the only one playable of 4, Leek started as they usually do in most games, slowly, finding themselves 0-14 down within the first 15 minutes.
After a quick re-group and a verbal bashing by Capt' Hicks Leek finally began to pull together and play the way they do best and prolonged pressure gave them the opportunity to reduce the deficit with a penalty conversion.
Longton never really gained any further advantage during the first half as they had in the first 15 minutes and it was Leek that did most of the pressing which reaped rewards when the ball was passed quickly from a ruck out to the backs where Carter spotted a gap in the defence and broke through to touch down, the conversion was good and so Leek had reduced the Longton's lead to only 4 points.
Leek had now proved to themselves that the initial start to the game had been a slight blip and were soon in front when Capt ' Hicks touched down 10 mins later, the conversion was missed but Leek had taken the lead into half time.
The second half saw Leek continue the pressure on Longton and with some improved tackling , rucking and a general improvement in their overall play they soon increased their lead when A.Skinner scored the first of his brace for the day, the conversion was good and Leek were now on a roll.
Fast hands from the back of the scrummage by Skinner and Hicks into the path of Rollason saw him burst through to touch down under the posts enabling an easy conversion.
It wasn't long after that, Stewart Managed to squeeze himself through Longtons defensive line to score his first try for the 3's with another easy conversion.
Leek had now secured the victory but the the scoring was not completed until the final 10 mins when pressure from the Leek's forwards hurried the Longton's Fly half to try a clearance kick from behind his try line the kick was charged down by the ever youthful Coleman who dropped on the ball to score the final points for Leek as the conversion fell just short.
Captain Hicks stated later, to turn the game around after such a woeful start showed the commitment the players have for each other, it could have been so easy to have folded after going 14 points behind so early in the game.
Next Saturday ( 16th) Leek 3's entertain another Local rival Stoke, players available to play, advise your captain.
