Papa John Cup
Scunthorpe 31
Leek 41
In the Papa Johns Cup, a late brace from hat-trick hero Sam Brereton gave the 1s a hard-fought bonus point win in Scunthorpe.
In Lincolnshire, the Moorlanders got off to a quick start with a try from Joe Byrne and penalty from Will Midwinter making it 0-8. Breo's first try, converted by Byrne, saw the lead stretch to 0-15, and when Byrne grabbed his second, converted by Midwinter, Leek were 0-22 up with less than 20 minutes played.
The hosts pulled a try back, but Joe Gorman's score re-established Leek's advantage. However, two converted tries from the hosts meant it was 19-29 at half time.
Scunthorpe moved closer with their own bonus point try and then grabbed another to take the lead, 31-29. But Brereton's late double, with a Midwinter conversion, gave the blue and whites a 31-41 win. So it's all to play for next week as we host Sandbach in the second group game.
