Leek welcomed our friends from Yorkshire for what is always a close encounter. With Jenny on TDG Under 18 England duty and 7 other girls injured or unavailable we were always going to be up against it.
Leek started well with Holly getting quick ball and she used her speed to score from the half way line which she then converted. We had to start with 14 girls with Leah returning but failed a fitness test to start the game. With all the late changes we had to make, the girls did not play with their usual structure. OC scored a fine try only for Abby to score a cracker in the corner. With the conversion being out of Holly's range I foolishly asked Millie to chance her arm with a small wager. Guess who is a few quid lighter. Great conversion my girl. OC scored twice before HT to take a 17-14 lead.
We had to step up our efforts but the girls were shattered as for the 2nd week, we could not give any of them a rest. Leah came on the the 2nd half and scored a good team try. 2 more trys from OC looked like game over but our girls never give up. Morgan scored an amazing try to set up a frenzy last few minutes but OC kept their heads to score with the last play of the game. OC keep their unbeaten run going but as a coach I could not have asked for anymore effort from our girls. Our core skills were off today and that is simply down to all the injuries and unavailability over the last few weeks.
Cup game this Sunday and at last most of the troops are returning
