Great victory against last season's Under 15 national champions

Leek travelled to Barkers Butts for our first ever fixture. We had 8 players injured or ill but still managed to put out 15 girls who are all strong in their position. This is down to the girls and coaches being willing to try different positions to give the squad more scope. BB had 28 players so it was always going to be an uphill task for our girls.
The game started brightly with both sides feeling each other out. BB scored first with a try under the posts but Jenny quickly replied with a score which was converted. Leek then took charge of the game. Our front three were magnificent with the ever improving Tess bossing her opposite number, Ava winning all our scrums and fine line out throwing plus some great tackling around the park and Maddie putting in a MOM performance at tight head. The engine room of Sammy and Kyra both worked their socks off with tremendous support play and fine scrumaging.
Morgan and Molly were everywhere both making 10's of metres with their bursting runs. Katie was our other MOM again making ground at will along side of her brilliant blind side work. Amiee was put under pressure from her opposite number but she still gave Jenny quality ball along with some snipping runs. Jenny controlled the game superbly mixing up the play to keep the opposition on their toes. Dunny looks like she has never been away playing a faultless game. Holly was a handful in both attack and she has developed a fine defensive game to boot. Maddie had her best game with one 40 metre run just halted by a last ditch tackle. Abby was a nightmare for the opposition who struggled to work her out. Megan did us a massive favour turning out for her first game of the season putting in a quality display.
Jenny made a good break to feed Holly who had to work hard for a fine try in the corner. More pressure from Leek led to Abby getting some space to score a cracker.
BB virtually changed their team at half time but our girls fitness was spot on. Leek put BB under pressure to win a penalty 5 metres out. A fine forwards move led to Katie crashing over for a converted try. With a 17 point lead the game looked over but BB had other ideas. Two quick scores meant the last 5 minutes would be close but we took charge again camping out on BB 5 metre line. More pressure gave Abby a little space and despite 3 defenders in attendance she crashed over to end the game.
BB are an excellent side and well coached. We thank them for their hospitality and look forward to playing them later in the season.
Girls. teams win matches and you now have good team spirit which is enabling you to be successful in tight matches. Very well done.
