Plenty of playing time for all of the squad

Trentham 5. Leek 63

Leek U18 girls travelled to Trentham last weekend. Unfortunately Trentham could only field 12 so the first half was 12 vs 12. This made the player playing time calculation a mathematical equation only equalled by those of NASA ! It also meant Uncontested scrums.

Trentham tackled hard and rucked well, but the space created by only 12 defenders enabled Leek to run amok in the backs, scoring 8 tries by half time. Some excellent off loading and great drawing and passing enabled Leek to score at will, winning quick ball and flooding the defence with wave after wave of attacks. Abbey and Megan both had good games at inside centre spinning the ball out but we will need to work on our line speed in defence which looked ragged at times.

To even things up in the second half Millie, Ava, Tess and Danny kindly took turns playing for Trentham, and both teams went for competitive scrums until an injury for Tretham again meant going back to uncompetitive scrums. This gave a much more even game with 15 vs 15 but did mean that the player times that we had worked out became irrelevant.

A much more balanced game in the second half, which was a much closer contest. Leek won the second half 3 tries to nil. Some great forward play with Millie, Morgan, Maddie, and Lotty driving forward and making ground before releasing the backs. Again Morgan and Katie did an excellent job of turning over balls in the tackle- much more defensive work in the second half as Tretham drove the ball back at us.

Megan was only stopped from scoring a hat trick of tries by a strong tackle by Millie, playing for Trentham, but Jenny did get 4 as full back.

A good run out for the girls after some of the tough games recently played and some interesting memories from the game (that handoff by Millie, and Izzy having a disagreement with the opposition !). There were also positives with many of the girls trying new positions as we develop our position coverage for the future.

Man of the match. Megan

Tries - Jenny x 4, Megan x 2, Millie Connard, Morgan, Holly, Millie Hall Cons - Holly x 4
