Leek 26. Old Crocs. 17
Leek welcomed old crocs last Sunday, who travelled down from Halifax. The first half saw old Crocs take the lead in the rain, with sustained forward pressure. The weather made handling very tricky and both sides settled into a classic forward battle, with strong tackling and rucking from both sides.
Leek were again strong in the scrums and the line outs went much better than the previous week but the strong forward runs from old crocs led to 2 first half tries. Leek were pinned back in their own half for much of the first period. Neither sets of backs could get going with strong midfield defence and difficult handling conditions. Old crocs led at the halfway point 12-0.
Leek came back in the second half and started to kick for territory to enable us to play rugby in the right areas of the pitch and put Old Crocs under pressure. With the weather drying up Leek started to put the ball through the backs hands with some good inter passing between backs and forwards and getting our phased play going. A strong scrum in the middle of the pitch in Old Crocs 22 enabled Leek to break blind with Jenny scoring.
Old crocs scored again with a strong break down the middle of the pitch, before Leek really started to get on top. Great breaks made by the forwards with Millie, Morgan, and Lotty surging forward with Kyra, and excellent defensive play from Danny, and Katie. With our forwards winning good ball, picking and driving to tie In the Old Crocs forwards, Izzy started spinning the ball out wide, running in 3 tries through the backs, with Holly getting a hat trick.
An excellent, hard game and we really look forward to the challenge from Old Crocs later in the season.
Man of the Match Lotty
