Another brilliant game of rugby from two class sides

Leek travelled to Ellesmere for the return fixture from last week. Izzy was unavailable through injury with Jenny taking the 10 role. Evie was ill and Ava is still to recover from long term injury. From the off our girls were in no mood to take a backward step and after good pressure from Ellesmere, Millie Hall incepted a pass and ran in from 60 yards. Great score. Millie also never missed a tackle all day and is in great form. As always we changed our scrum around to allow the girls maximum playing time. Millie Conord was back after missing last week and ran Ellesmere ragged. Our love Tess gave as good as she got at both prop and hooker. Maddy had another strong game causing havoc with her powerful runs. Charlie is settling well and held her own in the scrum. Grace Wilson was a powerhouse all day in both the scrum and the loose. Lottie produced a number of telling tackles and her rucking was superb. Captain Sammy was all over the place doing what she does so well and leading the team by example. Morgan was simply on another level and gave a tremendous all round performance capped off by a storming try. Katie'aka sticko' tied up their strong back row runners and as always made good ground with ball in hand. Danny gave Ellesmere plenty to think about with her strong running and Molly was as quick as ever with ball in hand and made strong yards.
We have a new half back partnership with Amie now feeding her usual class service to Jenny. Jenny kept Ellesmere on their toes everytime she touched the ball, always making distance . Kyra at 12 is becoming more and more a handful for the opposition but the whole of the back line needs to work on line speed and defensive aliagnment. Holly was superb in defence and when she had space looked dangerous. Jenny gave her the space in the 2nd half and she outpaced the defence to score. She also scored 2 conversions. Abby continued her fine form and, when playing inside centre, blasted through to score. Megan and Grace played in many positions all day and performed superbly. Freya made her seasons debuts and made some strong runs and was sound in defence. Last but not least is the lovely India. I said to her in the car, when she gets the ball just run as hard as you can and boy did she do this with two 35 yards runs and also was brilliant in defence. Great effort girls and well done to both teams. Still plenty to work on but a great start to the new season
