Our super girls now through to the National semi finals

Leek travelled to Stafford RUFC to play Tamworth in the Area 5 cup final. Area 5 consists of 8 counties from Worcestershire up to Lancashire. Before I get into the report, I would like to share my thoughts on Tamworth Under 15 girls. Myself and Steve Mellor have got to know the majority of the Tamworth squad and coaches in our involvement at Staffordshire CB. Tamworth are a superb side and if the premiership academy's were available, they would be very well represented. Andy and his fellow coaches have few piers in girls coaching and this showed in a tremendous final.
Leek won early ball and Abby Taffe set off down the wing sprinting 30 metres before being tackled into touch. This was an early indication that neither team would miss many tackles. Tamworth opened the scoring when their full back intercepted the ball to run half the length of the pitch to score a fine opportunist try. The game settled down for a short while until Holly found some space to score a cracker in the corner. Tamworth came straight back at us and camped on our line when eventually their prop crashed over for a converted try. Morgan again found space out wide and ran in a great score which spelt half time 12-10 to Tamworth.
As experience coaches we had our half time team talk prepared. Molly then asked to say something and gave one of the best half time team talks I have heard. Nothing more to add from us, we done Molly.
The second half was a different story with Leek now enjoying more ball and field position. Pressure told as Morgan crashed over for a super captains try. We were moving the ball out wide well but the Tamworth defence stood firm. Eventually, after some good phased possession, an overlap was created for Abby Taffe to run in from 40 metres to confirm the win. All the girls were incredible from both sides but I must mention Ava for all the ball she won against the head. Katie(the glue) Mellor kept all the phases together both in attack and in defence. This final was testament to how strong Staffordshire U15 girls rugby is and I firmly believe if the 2 teams were in different areas then we would both have gotten through to the national semi finals. Thank you to Stafford RUFC for hosting the game and they made both teams very welcome.
