Great effort by our super girls

Leek welcomed Worcester for the Area 5 final. I,ll put into context the task for our girls. We lost in December to Worcester 46-0 and they were the best team we have played by far this season. Worcester's team is mainly Under 15 girls with our team being mainly Under 14. Worcester have been playing 15 a side rugby for a whole season more than our girls and our girls have only started playing 15 a side this season. Summing up, we have a massive hill to climb.
Recently, we have had most of our long term injured players back and also we have made some positional changes giving us a better balanced team.
From the start Leek counter rucked the ball from Worcester who realised that they were in for a hard game. Leek dominated territory for the first 15 minutes but were met by strong Worcester defence. Leek scrummage was strong with Ava winning the ball against the head at will. Worcester finally got deep into our half and the full back crashed over for the opening score. This was against the run of play and Leek came back immediately with a superb loop move from half way. The ball came to Holly who out paced the Worcester defence to score the equaliser. The rest of the half was equally contested but when Worcester had a chance their finishing was clinical and they scored twice to hold the half time lead.
Our super props of Abby, Keira and Maddie were causing all kinds of problems for Worcester in the set piece with the engine room of Sammy and Lottie brilliant in the loose. Katie lived up to her nickname of the Jackal winning ruck ball with Danielle making ground all the time. Morgan's tackle count was crazy showing her class as our Midlands representative. Dunny had the game of her life outplaying a far more experience scrum half. Jenny, as always, ran the game for us in attack and defence with Izzy and Holly making all their tackles and both looking dangerous in attack. Abby T smashed everything in front of her with Molly putting in another class performance. Grace was immaculate in defence and attack and is looking the real deal at full back. Ella came on for her first game in 10 weeks with Millie, India and Shannon also putting in fine performances. The final score was 34-5. I thought the score was harsh but Worcester are a fine team and we wish them all the best in the semi finals. We ran them close, dispite the score and someone's opinion, and gave them one hell of a game.
I have been coaching for 9 years now. I have never seen development of a squad to not knowing a thing about 15 a side rugby to then be able to produce rugby of this quality in 6 months. All the girls and parents are a absolute pleasure to know and I salute you all.
