Two good matches against strong opposition

Leek travelled for the first time to Mansfield to play a tri tournament with Burton.
Leek played Burton in the first game with Burton missing one of their strong players and also loosing another after 5 minutes. Burton are a far improved side playing hard, fast rugby and took an early lead. This woke Leek up and Holly scored a fine individual try under the posts which she converted. Leek welcomed back Izzy Parry for the first time since late September and she literally hit the ground running with two well worked trys with the ball being spun along the line allowing Izzy to show her pace and strength. Morgan completed the scoring with a typical bulldozing try for the game to finish 22-5 to Leek
Leek then played hosts Mansfield and knew they were in for a tough game having seen Mansfield beat Burton 27-5. Leek's props Abbie Weston, Kiera and Maddie pushed the more experienced Mansfield back with Ava taking many strikes against the head. The engine room of Lottie and Sammy added the grunt for Leek to dominate the set piece. Loose play was a different matter with Mansfield showing great rucking skills in both attack and defence. This enabled them to work 3 overlaps to score and one was converted HT 17-0. Dispite the score, we were competing well and the cobwebs were now well and truly shook off. Our back row of Katie, Dunny and Ella were starting to win more of our fair share of loose ball and Danielle was making ground at will. Jenny and Holly started to get hold of the game and pushed Mansfield back into their own half for the duration. Morgan and Izzy were making ground with every run as were the wingers Millie, Molly and the returning Abby Taffe who never missed a tackle all afternoon. Grace was a rock at full back and caused problems for the opposition. Danielle scored a magnificent try making a run deep into the Mansfield half and two phases later crashed over in the corner. Holly had an almost impossible conversion but summond up great power and accuracy and converted for a full time score of 17-7 to Mansfield.
The girls are progressing well in their first season of 15 a side. Playing teams of this quality will progress them as a squad.
Well done girls!!
