Trentham conceded our Under 15 cup game due to lack of numbers so we quickly arranged a friendly away with Ellesmere Port/Manchester.
Just to give you the background of the 2 teams EP/M are a well established squad with all of the girls being year 10. They have many players playing county and divisional rugby and have all had one season playing 15 a side rugby. We have 5 year 10 girls who only 1 has played 15 a side rugby and the balance of the girls are year 9. So imagine the task ahead.
EP/M started quickly and moved the ball steadily down the pitch and then created overlaps to score 2 quick trys. This looked like a long afternoon but our girls are made of sterner stuff with Jenny Hesketh scoring a great individual try.
In the second quarter, Leek scored again with Jenny being held up just short and Holly going over for our 2nd try. EP/M scored again to make it 3 trys to 2 at half time. We had 19 players and moved the girls around into different positions and this lost us some momentum. EP/M scored 2 more trys before Holly scored her 2nd in the corner getting injured in the process. EP/M scored once more to make the final score 6 trys to 3.
This was a massive effort from our girls against top class opposition. With more training and game time plus learning 2 positions each, our girls will get stronger and stronger.
Well done to India Baker on her debut, looks like another star for the future.
Very proud day for the coaches, well done our super girls
